A Clarity from Collision

A Museum for the Artist Group ZERO

Spring 2021 | Houston, Texas

Instructor: Stephen Leet

Individual Work by Borler Wu

01

The avant-garde Zero Group artists challenged materiality, light, and space in ways unconstrained by past artistic traditions. Focus on collaboration and participation was at the group’s core, rather than art production being limited to the individual. By assembling numerous artists to form ZERO, a powerful new art scene soon enveloped the 1950’s.

This museum seeks to exemplify the unifying collision of the many artists, where an array of gallery spaces once typical in form collide, rupturing the interior to create something new. A resulting navigational spine protrudes from these galleries’ interactions, which is present but not emphatically clear. Visitor meander from gallery to gallery in infant ways while occasionally stumbling upon and recentering themselves within the core.
