Two performance halls on the Delmar Loop are proposed on a site whose economic divide tells much of the same narrative to that of St. Louis. South, the neighborhood’s median income is $47,000– North, $22,000. By intersecting one recital space (operable to the sidewalk) into the larger concert hall above, visibility and interaction are enabled for both demographics.
At night, cast is an array of light blended with the performer’s silhouettes whose movements dance in and out of the foliage-like facade. The density of these holes gradually increases while becoming significantly smaller in scale, reducing opacity to both concentrate audience members’ attention on the performance, while simultaneously providing more privacy in seating locations. A light show emerges from the inside out, for all to participate.
