A Woven Infrastructure

A Mixed Use Community Center, Challenging Urban Sprawl

Fall 2021 | St. Louis, Missouri

01

Unfolding from a proposed Metro stop at the heart of a newly developing St. Louis neighborhood are various programs-- for moments of voyeurism within the park, formal and informal gathering areas, and room for spontaneous interactions which aim to bring the space to life.

This project loooks to connect populations of Saint Louis University, The Grove, and the LGBTQ community located in a neighborhood southwest. Simultaneously, the site contrasts an adjacent Ikea, an epitomized stop-and-go individualistic big-box retail concept, instead proposing one where people come to stay.

Rather than hide the infrastructure, the design looks to bring out the folding and dense language of what already exists.
