Dunbar Elementary was a local St. Louis elementary school at risk of closure due to low enrollment that ArchEngage partnered with. With children and staff of the community, we came together to create a 4’ x 8’ mural that would commemorate the history of the school and bring about school closure awareness. The experience was humbling in the conversations learned of the various struggles a community experiences when a local anchor (in this case a school) becomes jeopardized, a challenge many underfunded St. Louis neighborhoods face.
